Keys to Patient Safety Include Infection Control & Simulation Education

A leading manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies, clinical simulation equipment and healthcare education, Pocket Nurse believes that promoting infection control and healthcare simulation education are the keys to a full commitment to patient safety. These factors ultimately contribute to better patient outcomes, while protecting healthcare learners and professionals, because infection control stems from standard precautions based on assessed risk.

One feature of are articles that define new and evolving simulation procedures. Here are two I wrote on Dental Simulation and Veterinary Simulation.

SimTalk™ Blog

Creating Simulations for Transgender Patient Care

It’s estimated that the transgender population in the United States is very small, with census numbers ranging from 0.6 percent to 1.2 percent of the adult population. However, this small population is disproportionally affected by mental health issues and homelessness.

Unfortunately, transgender people who seek healthcare frequently face discrimination due to lack of knowledge and bias on the part of providers. The National Center for Transgender Equality found about a quarter of survey respondents decided not to seek medical care due to fear of being mistreated.

As a freelance writer and editor, I published articles in several Pittsburgh publications (including the one featured here, “Rainbow Connections”), was editor for The Daguerreian Society, and worked for (now defunct) Brady Communications.

Rainbow Connections

Everything you wanted to know about the county’s colored Beltway System (but were afraid to get off the Parkway to ask).

Peppered along roadways both big and small in Allegheny County are signs with colored circles: “Green Belt” or “Orange Belt” (or Blue, Yellow, Red) with a circle of the corresponding shade. If you’ve driven on a belt — and most likely you have — you’ve probably noticed the signs.
